3-month secondment of PhD student Soraya Alfonsi in UPC Perú

PhD student Soraya Alfonsi (UNICAM, Italy) has arrived to Lima for her 3-month secondment at Dr. Pohl Milón's laboratories at Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC, Perú).

Soraya Alfonsi, a PhD student under the supervision of Dr. Roberto Spurio (Department of Molecular Biology, University of Camerino (UNICAM), Italy) has just arrived for a 3-month secondment at Dr. Pohl Milón laboratories (Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC) in Lima, Perú).

During this time, she will follow up of the work done by PostDoc Fellow Lucia Cimarelli, namely the establishment, in collaboration with Early Stage Researchers of UPC Perú, of a small-scale culture collection of microorganisms isolated from Peruvian environmental samples, with the aim to identify antibiotic producer strains. She is also planning to acquire the know-how for the analysis of aptamer-ligand interactions. This approach will target protein factors of the bacterial pathogen S.aureus, involved in biofilm formation and maturation. Finally, she will transfer to UPC (Lima) the know-how required to produce, analyze and quantify biofilm structures consisting of S. aureus bacterial cells.

Her secondment at Dr. Milón's laboratories takes place from May 9th to August 9th, 2023, both included.
