Carles Mas-Moruno co-chairs a mini-symposium at ESB 2021

Carles Mas Moruno, PI of Bio-TUNE, together with Prof. Conrado Aparicio and Dr. Paula Parreira, has co-chaired the mini-symposium “Bioinspired Antimicrobial Materials: Addressing Infections in Regenerative Medicine”, held within the 31st Conference of the European Society for Biomaterials (ESB 2021).

On Monday, 6th September 2021, the mini-symposium “Bioinspired Antimicrobial Materials: Addressing Infections in Regenerative Medicine” was held, within the 31st Conference of the European Society for Biomaterials (ESB 2021).

The session was chaired by Prof. Conrado Aparicio (UMN, USA / UIC, Spain), Dr. Paula Parreira (i3S, Porto, Portugal) and Dr. Carles Mas-Moruno (BBT group, Technical University of Catalonia, Barcelona, Spain, and PI of the Bio-TUNE project).

This symposium provided a comprehensive overview of the most advanced trends in the development of bioinspired antimicrobial materials, covering from antimicrobial peptides to multifunctional surfaces and recent strategies to fight antibiotic-resistant bacteria, among others.

The session started with the keynote lecture of Dr. S. A. Zaat (Amsterdam UMC, Medical Microbiology and Infection Prevention, Amsterdam, Netherlands) with the title “Bioinspired strategies to combat multi-drug resistant biomaterial-associated infection”. The session was followed by several oral communications from worldwide research groups working in the development of antibacterial materials.
