Jun 03, 2024

PhD student Soraya Alfonsi (UNICAM, Italy) is in Lima for another 3-month secondment at Dr. Pohl Milón's laboratories at Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC, Perú), after the one she made one year ago.

Soraya Alfonsi, a PhD student under the supervision of Dr. Roberto Spurio (Department of Molecular Biology, University of Camerino (UNICAM), Italy) is in the last month of her 3-months secondment at Dr. Pohl Milón laboratories at Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC) in Lima, Perú.

This is the second time that Soraya has visited Milón's laboratory. During this secondment, she will be investigating a Staphylococcus aureus quorum sensing system to control biofilm formation. Collaborating with researchers at UPC, her primary focus will be on investigating and testing metabolites capable of interfering this system, inhibiting or detaching biofilms from coated surfaces. Additionally, she will be involved in the study of Class 1 Integron, a genetic element that is involved in the antibiotic resistance genes dissemination within biofilms, analyzing the structure of its gene cassettes.

Her secondment at Dr. Milón's laboratories began on March 27th and will finish on June 26th, 2024, both days included.
