UNICAM welcomes two PhD students from UPC Perú for 4 months

PhD students Katherine Peñaranda and Roberto Alcántara (UPC, Perú) join Dr. Roberto Spurio (UNICAM, Italy) for a 4-month secondment (each) in his laboratories.

PhD students Katherine Peñaranda and Roberto Alcántara from Universidad Peruana de Ciencias (Perú) have joined Dr. Roberto Spurio and his team in their laboratories at the University of Camerino (Italy) for a 4-month secondment, each.

Katherine Peñaranda will be working in establishing in vitro transcription and translation assays to test bioactive molecules targeting the bacterial pathogen Staphylococcus aureus and in transfering the knowledge of the SELEX technology that she is currently working on to UNICAM, as well as developing aptamers specific for components of the Staphylococcus aureus translational apparatus.

Roberto Alcántara, on the other side, plans to try to screen microorganism of the culture collection available at the Laboratory of Genetics in UNICAM, to identify antibiotic producer bacteria activa against the bacterial pathogen S. aureus. Also, he will transfer to UNICAM the phage display technology with the aim to identify peptide inhibitors of S. aureus.

During his time in Camerino, they have attended the Ribosome Structure & Function (Ribosomes 22) Conference, held in Bourdeaux (France) from the 10th to the 14th July, 2022. They both presented Bio-TUNE-related research. To know more, you can click here.
